Back Home USA - June 27, 2012

Back in the USA! We landed safely in Chicago and are settling in for our epic layover, getting reacquainted with McD's for fun and for Mark & Shelly's wedding anniversary dinner. Speaking of places for dinner, Bella Mamma Kathy found the only public outlet near our gate - yeah, in the bathroom!

Rome, Italy - June 26, 2012

Rome on our last day. Quite the excitement, from touring the ancient Colosseum and Forum to meandering the streets, a stop at the police station, and the last night's dinner and back at our hotel. This is a day we won't forget!

Update: Rome, Italy - June 26, 2012

Dear Parents:

We're all fine and have had a wonderful trip!! It's been beautiful, albeit hot, but we're doing well.

This afternoon, we had an unfortunate incident. Our bus was broken into while we were on a walking tour, and some of us had items taken. Those girls affected have already contacted their parents and appropriate measures have been taken.

The reporting process allows those affected to file insurance, either with personal homeowner's loss coverage, or through purchased trip insurance.

We are working through the accompanying emotions together, as this certainly is upsetting. Most importantly, we are using our voices to come together in song.

We'll see you tomorrow night!!
Love,
Shelly and all

Rome, Italy - June 25, 2012

Roma! From our guided tours of St Peter's to the Vatican Museums and then singing at the Pantheon, we enjoyed a sizzling day in Rome. Bella Voce has been drawing large crowds especially at our impromptu performances, though as you can see, Mark caught "The Great Russian Invasion" outside the Pantheon;-). This evening, we participated in a stunning concert with two very good Italian choirs. Brava!

Assisi, Italy - June 24, 2012

Assisi: Today we drove out of Tuscany into Umbria and got to tour Assisi, yet another favorite city for many, with a special Rochester connection and rich history of Saints Francis and Claire. A highlight was singing the "Prayer of St Francis" right at his namesake basilica and burial shrine. Then it was back on the road through more gorgeous scenery and sunflower fields to Rome where we're settled in for the night. Buona notte!

Volterra & Tuscany - Saturday, June 23, 2012

Volterra, Italy and Tuscany. Today we traveled through gorgeous countryside on some curvy roads (thanks Elio, our driver!) to Volterra which must be the most perfectly amazing hill towns of Tuscany. Singing at the baptisterie and cathedral here fulfilled a dream Shelly's been having to take the Bella girls here, and it was truly an amazing experience. Our walking tour of Volterra brought us to Etruscan workshops of alabaster craftsmen, an ancient Roman amphitheater, and wonderful markets. We ended the day back in Montecatino on a trolley train and singing, singing, singing!

Elio, our fearless bus driver!
